By: Allen O., Transformations Alumnus

allen0h2Hi, I’m Allen O. and I’m an alcoholic and a drug addict. Before coming to Transformations my life was a complete mess. I gave up on myself and thought things would never get better. I lost everyone and everything I ever cared about. I was unemployable, sleeping on my mom’s couch, my license was suspended, and I was hopeless. I lost count of how many detox and treatment centers I’d been to. I truly thought going to Transformations would be another short break and, why not, it is in Florida.

After getting insurance, on January 1, 2017, and making a few calls, Transformations accepted me and I was on my way to detox. Five days in, my insurance cut me off. I thought I’d be on the streets, but Transformations gave me a chance and a full scholarship for 30 days. While I was there, they taught me that you can have fun while being sober. They took us fishing, to the beach, we watched the Super Bowl, and, most importantly, they helped me reconnect with my higher power.

As of January 13, 2021, I have four years sober. I have worked the steps, continue to do AA, and have a sponsor and a home-group. AA has changed my life for the better in every aspect. My career as an electrician is at an all-time high. I regained the love and respect of my parents which I had lost. I met the woman of my dreams and we bought a house together. I got my driver’s license back and got a 2020 Silverado truck. Most importantly, I love the confidence and self-respect I regained that I thought would never return. Thanks, Transformations, for setting the foundation for me to be my best.
