Benzos are sedatives common in overdose deaths. According to recent research published in the American Journal of Public Health, a third of pain prescription-related deaths were caused by benzos. Benzos or benzodiazapines is a class of drugs that includes Xanax, Klonopin (clonazepam) and Valium, among others. This class of drugs has seen a spike of 500% in overdose deaths in the last 18 years. Many of those who took them did not know they were addictive. There was no explanation or narrative that even came close to warning them about the risks. According to Don Wells of the Heartland Center for Behavioral Change, benzo deaths do not get the kind of attention opioids, heroin, and painkillers get even though they are equally dangerous. A person who overdoses on benzo simply does not wake up especially if taken with other drugs.
