Bunavail is a safe controlled CII drug used for medication-assisted treatment (MAT) of heroin and opiate addiction. It has been approved by the FDA for treatment of drug dependence provided it is used in conjunction with psychosocial support and counseling. The main ingredients in Bunavail are naloxone and buprenorphine. It is able to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and lowers the risk for abuse and misuse.. Bunavail has side effects like blurred vision, constipation, tongue pain, back and stomach pain, insomnia, nausea, headaches, numbness, dark urine, appetite loss, lethargy, confusion, light-colored stool, yellowish eyes and skin, respiratory problems, fatigue, itchiness, rashes, slurred speech, swelling, bleeding, and bruising. Any of these symptoms should be reported to the doctor immediately. Bunavail, while safe if taken under strict supervision, should not be taken with other benzos, alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers. Bunavail should also not be injected because it will cause serious health issues including anxiety, cravings, cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, insomnia, and pain. The safe daily dosage is 8.4/1.4mg units but can be adjusted as seen fit by the prescribing doctor. The drug comes in film or tablet that must dissolve inside the mouth. The drug cannot be swallowed, crushed, or chewed. For now, Bunavail is not recommended for children, pregnant or nursing women, those with allergy issues, those with Addison’s disease, enlarged prostate, liver, kidney, gallbladder or adrenal gland problems, those who have had a head or brain injury, those with a history of alcoholism, those with spinal curvature problems, those with mental health and respiratory issues, and any other medical condition because of the buprenorphine. Bunavail can only be sold to certified doctors and giving it away is against the law. Since Bunavail has an opioid, there is a risk for addiction however this drug cannot be stopped cold turkey. The doctor must prescribe a weaning period where the patient slowly tapers off the drug while under medical supervision.
