Recently the American Heart Association released a policy statement endorsing e-cigarettes as a “last resort” to help smokers quit. Although not announcing an official policy, the American Cancer Society had a similar position a few months ago. These endorsements came with several accompanying warnings, which should not get lost in the conversation. E-cigarettes should be kept away from children. Using an e-cigarette should only be considered after other proven methods to quit smoking such as the nicotine patch have failed.
