By: Cameron C., Transformations alumnus

My name is Cameron, I am 26 years old and I celebrated three years sober this month. I was a client at Cameron C. Pic 1Transformations Treatment Center in 2016 and 2017. Today I live in my home state of West Virginia where I currently work as an Alumni Coordinator at a treatment center. Transformations helped me learn a lot about recovery and life after treatment. I had the opportunity to not only work on myself but also to have fun in the process. I catch myself a lot in my daily routine using Transformations as an example of how I should lead as a staff member, and a personal example to the clients and alumni I work with every day.

I, unfortunately, did not stay sober after leaving Transformations, but the experiences I had really taught me that I should never give up on working towards a better future and that a life without the use of substances is possible. Transformations and their Alumni Department have been by my side every step of the way. I receive messages from their staff checking in on me and seeing how I am doing. Getting to share my recovery story with Transformations has been one of my favorite parts of the process. The staff never stopped caring and keeping in contact with me, and that inspired me to continue in my life at work, with my family and loved ones. I have also been able to share my experiences, strength, and hope at an Alumni Night (via Zoom). Having the opportunity to speak was like a full circle moment in my recovery. I remember going to Alumni Nights while in treatment and after, listening to past alumni share their successes and their stories.

My life in recovery is not anything like I imagined it to be. Things are happening in my life that I never thought was possible. I think one of the main reasons for all of this was the treatment, support, and hope I was able to experience at Transformations. This spring I am going back to college at West Virginia University as a full-time Business major student. I have received a scholarship for persons in recovery that is given through the state of West Virginia. This holiday season I get to spend yet another year at home with my family. I cannot thank the Transformations staff enough, along with their amazing and supportive Alumni Program.Cameron C. Pic 2 225x300 1
